waiting for hostel allotment .
Dear friends, .
11 September 2004.
.
We, along with hundreds of other students, got admitted to various courses in JNU.
this year. We have descended here with dreams of an academic career from all nooks.
and comer of the country, some even travelling more than 3000 miles to reach this.
enlightened educational destination. .
.
However, on reaching here, we were utterly dismayed by the sheer negligence and.
apathetic attitude meted out by the university administration to the new students..
Despite two of new hostels being ready for occupancy, the administration has used.
some .illogical pretext or other to deny these facilities to hundreds of new students.
who are forced to stray out in this sprawling campus without proper shelter or food.
even when they are deeply immersed in their course work. Even when this has.
happened, many of the hostels have denied temporary accommodation anq mess.
.
facilities like SR, TR and NR to the new students. As a result, most ofus have been.
forced by our financial constraints to end up as illegal guests with our senior students.
in various hostels inside the campus. .
.
Even when hundreds of new students are meandering across the campus with this.
agony, the students' representative body in the university has not given a serious.
backing to any ofthese issues other than making some symbolic hue and cry. At this.
.
point, when we are left out in this new world to fend for ourselves, some of us have.
decided to take up this cause and fight for our genuine rights, being denied to us by.
some bureaucratic nexus in the university. .
At this moment, we were forced to go on an indefmite hunger strike from.
10.09.04 (Friday) to press our demands and force the authorities to end their.
discrimjnatory indulgences and restore our genuine demands. .
We use this opportunity to humbly request the student community in thisuniversity to endow their wholehearted support to this agitation. .
