About the Play .

Dawat-e-Khichdi, a montage, elaborates the antecedents, process and consequences of modern city life. Strangely, a city is both, a home as well as an alien and an alienating environment, enveloping us all. The play depicts the dilemmas and conflicts of urban living, highlighting the debilitating compromises one has to make in order to survive. It puts the spotlight on the plight of migrating laborers, who are the makers of the modern city, yet remain invisible. .

Directors Note .

Dark midnight hour, .

A vulnerable child -eyes lit up with dreams I kissed him, took him in my arms -Little fingers, held my hand tightly The trusting, lovely smile, took me into the fragrance of silence This bondage of love stirs my soul .

I travel in the ghetto of images -Hustling-bustling city Millions of wheels, screaming Wounded, blind shadows Running through the smoky sky To reach the peaks of pyramids A dead king smiling .

Faces trapped in the Web, Jackals singing the story of pride and freedom Tears of dry fields, imprisoned in the hunger godowns .

GDP, and Sensex of strangled sheep, rising An aloof, lonely, injured feather stuck in the tower of development Survival on sale -buy one get three free But again, the child smiles And Gives me the courage, to step into reality on the path of infinite diversity And Invite you all to the celebration of Dawat e-Khichdi .
