After the SFI led JNUSU has been totally exposed and discredited in front of the student community, it is vainly trying to cover up their track -record of deceit and failure by appealing for unity .A~er they have functioned as the agents of the admn. for last two years .are they in any position to Unite the students against the admn. ? Why are they today speaking of unity after cynically dividing the .
students community on caste lines and introducing the virus of caste politics In the campus ?After their long record of misguiding the students collaborating with the admn. for their petty ends ? .
At the beginning of last year ,a long list of student grievances and corruption charges against the admn. was drawn up and an agitation started ,Which was promptly withdrawn when their main agenda ,that of revocation of rustication of the then JNUSU president for beating up a Dallt driver was conceded by the admn. . The Issue of administrative corruption was promptly hushed up by JNUSU . .
On the hostel front ,after annual agitations just before the elections ,after two years of SFI dominated JNUSU ,they could ensure neither feasible temporary accommodation, nor construction of Tapti 2"" wing ,leave aside any permanent solution ,which they promised us time and again .Last year the JNUSU promised mess and transport facility for Mahipalpur ,which they simply forgot after the elections. Today the .JNUSU is proposing the conversion of Working Women's hostel Into temporary boys hostel .The Working Women's hostel would have been completed by now ,if it was not for the fact that the SFI had opposed the construction of this hostel In 1996 and delayed it by more than a year .For the simple reason that their electoral interests lie in keeping the hostel problem alive for annual agitations and not allowing a permanent solution . .
Science school students have lost count of the number of times they have misled them on the Issue of fellowship .The ABVP led union in 1996 ensured Its continuation even after concerted efforts by the UF-Govt.to scrap It .It was the SFI-led Unions for the past two years ,which failed in ensuring its continuation and purposely manipulated the sentiments of science school students by leading periodic .
·agitations 'and providing that It has been sanctioned each time . When In last semester they were In hunger strike to ensure that their Red Lumpens responsible for violence were net punished ,the issue ,of Fellowship was also included but promptly forgotten .This time also , they are cynically raising this issue .
to keep it alive till the elections , knowing quite well that they will not be able to ensure its fulfillment. .
On GSCASH too, the demand for autonomy etc. has nothing to do with the real problem of gender sensitization and has everything to do with perpetuating the hegemony of the Left and their bid to maintain political control over all institutions, as they have done in states where they are in power. On what grounds were the Gender Studies Forum, an SFI-CPI(M) front and the well-known Leftist NGOS like 'Sakshi' selected for Inclusion behind the backs of the students? This quest for maintaining political control Is cloaked behind slogans of autonomy and gender sensitization. Such a politically biased and partisan committees will defeat Its own purpose and work against the Interests of both boys end girts. The SFI-CPI(M)'s concern for gender sensitivity is reflected by the fact that In West Bengal where they .
are in power, their candidate from Calcutta South constituency for Lok Sabha '99, Com. Subhankar Chakraborty publicly states that jeans and salwar-kameez for girts are Indecent. When this person was Principal of Ashutosh College, he banned college girts from wearing jeans or even salwar-kameez and stipulated that only sarees can be worn, that too in "the right way ". The SFI has till today never .
condemned this action. Let them come out with a condemnation or be exposed for wha~ they are. .
Will these Issues should be freely debated In tomorrow's UGBM. We call upon the student .
community, particularly freshers, to ensure maximum possible participation and call the bluffs which the .
SFII.JNUSU have been consistently feeding us with. .
