towards this end, the Library Advisory Committee (LAC) has passed a proposal to set up the JNU Press. A committee has been formed to overlook the entire process, and guidelines for the functioning of the committee have been prepared, .

rli ftesisting Restrictions on Photocopying: This year, shamefully knowtowing to corporate interests of big publishin .houses, the JNU administration tried to surreptitiously introduce restrictions on photocopying in JNU. JNUSU Immediately intervened, protested and raised the issue at the Academic Council meeting held on 26 April 2013. As a result of JNUSU's interventions, the JNU administration was forced to backtrack on this move. Such restrictions o photocopying, had it gone uncontested, would have made study ·materials and books extremely expensive an \lirtually inaccessible to most JNU students. This move would have been hugely detrimental to the academics of JNU and would have severely hampered students from pursuing their studies. .

Purchase of Required Databases: Since March 2012, JNUSU has intervened to ensure that the library facilities are improved. During the tenure of the previous JNUSU, thousands of books had been purchased, towards addressing the crying dearth of academic material in th~ Central Library. The process of acquiring digital resources and of properly .

cataloguing books in the Central Library as well as in the various centre-based libraries. in different schools had been taken up. During the past year, this process was taken forward, and several critical datab(!ses very useful for students' research purposes were acquired by the library. .

> [ emote Access to the library Database:. This year, remote access to the Central Library's database was introduced. .

This move has enabled students, especially Ph.D, research scholars, to access the library resources and databases such as JSTOR from their hostel rooms, homes and even during fieldwork, thus hugely facilitating research and increasing the freedom of the res_earchers to work from anywhere they wish. .

::'"> _I mproving Library Infrastructure: During the past one year, there has been significant renovation in the Central Library; the Dholpur House has undergone renovation for instance. >'-Expanding Timings of the Cyber library: After consistent intervention of the JNUSU and the Library Convenor, the timings of the cyber library were extended to 10 pm, thus ensuring more hours for students to use the library's computer facilities. .

} In order to ensure proper frequency of the 615 bus services in the campus, JNUSU took up the issue with the DTC. .

> Following JNUUS's intervention, the 507_DTC route's service was introduced from the Paschimabad bus stop. .

:r The previous JNUSU had demanded that the Delhi Metro start feeder buses. from JNU to the Hauz Khas. Metro station. The transport convenor of the present JNUSU actively pursued the issue. JNUTA also helped in the matter and as a result the metro fee.der bus service was started. .

While carrying forward struggles for students' inalienable rights, JNUSU also. emerged as a voice of the democratic struggles being waged t~cross the country and in different parts of the world. After the untimely and unfortunate death of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, .INUSU stood by the people of Venezuela as they bravely defended Chavez's anti-imperialist and pro-poor legacy. As Palestinians in the Gata strip battled yet another assault by the Israeli occupying forces in November 2012, JNUSU emerged as their voice in Delhi, mobilising the democratic sections amongst students, teachers and intellectuals in Delhi, and articulating the aspirations of the 7 .
