INTO THE IDSTORY OF 'CIVILISED AMERICA' AND 'BARBARIC MIDDLE EAST' .

-.

1od· 'The Islamic world is medieval, fundamentalist and undemocratic'! 'How come the nations of the Middle East are all despotic and anti-modern I?' These ideas are not just part of recent US propaganda in its racist.

harbour a secret suspicion that Islamic societies are fanatic and anti-democratic..

What are the crimes of history which have labeled the Middle-East and West-Asia as an 'Oil Belt' which .

falls outside the 'civilised modem' world? What accounts for the grossly unfair linkage of Islamic= Fanaticism? .

Let Us Take A Look At History: .

.

August 19, 1953 : The flourishing democracy in Iran of Mohammed Mossadeq, a charismatic Western-educated leader massively backed by a burgeoning middle class, who had nationalised oil resources in Iran, was toppled by Operation Ajax, coordinated by the British Ml6 and the American CIA. The Iranian constitution, which stipulated that Shah can reign but not rule, was undermined and the US propped up the puppet regime of the Shah. .

This coup .

1. .

Scuttled the Iranian model of sturdy, inclusive democracy which would have broken the myth of Islam being incompatible with democracy; .

.

2. .

Gave the Ayatollahs their political clout, thanks to their patronage by the Shah; .

.

3. .

Associated modernisation with the hated US-backed Shah, and fuelled the Islamic radicalist reaction spearheaded by Khomeini. .

.

.

.

So, a truly democratic Iran which could have led the march of the Middle-East and West-Asia towards modern democracy, was demolished by those who claim today to be waging a war to defend democracy I The effects of that black coup were even more far-reaching and tragic. Against Khomeini's Iran, the US backed and egged on Saddam Hussain. Emboldened by his invasion of Iran, Hussain invaded Kuwait and the US then used its war on Iraq to establish bases on Saudi soil. .

So, throughout the Middle-East and West-Asia, the US and its cohorts are known and hated for toppling democratic governments pushing the people under the yoke of puppet regimes, and bombarding the people of this region when these regimes become hindrance to the US' oil interests. .

For the people of these regions reeling for decades under such regimes, the US has spelt the destruction of democracy, the snatching of rights over their own national resources, and unremitting terror, brutalization, hunger and poverty. Isn't it a cruel joke that the same US today is giving them lessons in .

civilizations and democracy ? Is it any surprise at all that for the beleaguered people of the Middle-East and west-Asia, all the tall talk of international law and US-sponsored 'war against terrorism' seem not only meaningless but breathtakingly unjust and hypocritical ? .

Friends, When Bush says that US is fighting a war against enemies who are 'hiding their faces in the shadows', all democracy-loving people must turn the question against him and ask the real barbarians to stop hiding their true faces behind a veil of racist jingoism and frenzied warmongering. .

Let the History Speak for Itself! Long Live People's Indomitable Struggle for Democracy and Justice !! .
