Germans taking it out for a spin in Parc Cinquantenaire - Brussels
"Belgium has seen its share, but we all hoped that enough blood has been spilled for our nations to be able to live in peace and democracy. Lest we forget. Sadly we mourn again. - 22/03/2016"
Two Germans pose in an automobile somewhere during the occupation of Brussels, where the General-Gouvernement Brüssel was installed. The rifle-holders on the side of the car are a nice touch. One is in place.
For anyone who has been there, the triumphal arch in the back is clearly the one in Parc du Cinquantenaire or Jubelpark. King Leopold II commissioned the parc in 1880 to celebrate the 50th anniversary (hence Cinquantenaire) of the independance of Belgium.
The world expo was held there in 1888 and 1897 and several buildings were added for those occasions. The arc itself was added in 1905.
The buildings on the right of the arc house the Royal Military Museum which has a huge German WWI collection and I would highly recommend going there if you're interested in that kind of stuff and ever in Brussels. Free admission.
