The JSA

A few years back we were inspired looking through Toyz in the attic's photos of Golden Age heroes and really wanted to build the Justice Society of America.

The first super team! In 1940 the cover of All Star Comics 3 was quite exciting as DC presented together, in the same comic, The Flash! The Green Lantern! The Spectre! Hawkman! Dr. Fate! Hour-Man! Sandman! The Atom!

Rather than true team events, these early outings usually involved the heroes swapping stories of their individual exploits, so each issue was more of an anthology.

Nonetheless, this set the standard for the Justice League of America which, in turn, inspired Stan Lee's Fantastic Four and Avengers.

We have almost reached our goal. We first picked up Dr. Mid-Nite (& Hooty) loose and featured him in chapter 22 of the Paprihaven story. Since then we've picked up what you see here, plus Hawkman and Hawkwoman (whom we didn't want to take down from their ceiling suspension because it's a hassle getting them to hang correctly up there.)

For our JSA build, we're missing Wildcat and Johnny Thunder and his Thunderbolt. Wildcat should come soon as, so far, his prices have been just beyond what we want to pay. So we're waiting until he pops up in our price range.

We are planning a custom Johnny Thunder and Thunderbolt in fully poseable 1:12.

This is a poor-man's JSA build in that the DCUC Dr. Fate goes for almost $200 on card, and almost $100 loose. No way we're paying that so we settled for the DC Direct version which, while not as articulated, does look cooler.

Also the Jay Garrick Flash is available in a DC Signature Series that runs the better part of $100, so we went with DC Direct for him as well.

Of course, we're also going to remove them all from their cards so we can photograph their adventures.

So, what we have at this point, from left to right, Dr. Fate, The Flash, Starman, Hourman, The Spectre, Green Lantern, the Atom. And in the center, Dr. Mid-Nite and the Sandman. And, not in the photo, Hawkman and Hawkwoman.
