Cape Town Aerial Dawn Panorama
My main focus (regarding photography) over the past half-dozen years has been to improve my compositions.
I would much rather see a brilliantly-composed photo of a boring subject... than a poorly-composed photo of a great subject.
My understanding of colour-theory however, is still woefully inadequate... and I'll be the first person to admit that!
I am often confused. At what point do my photos become over-saturated, or too warm, or too red... and is magenta even a real colour!? :)
I do understand the basics... that some colours are more prominent than others (red vs. blue)... and that some colours work better together than others.
For instance... did you know that the colours that work best together are often found on opposite sides of the colour-wheel?
These opposing colour-combinations are called complementary colours.
Images that contain only (shades of) complementary colours are usually deemed more visually pleasing than others.
But (until today) I've never understood how to apply these theories to my own photography... how to edit my photos in a way that they only contain (a mix of) two complementary colours.
So right now I am one day older... and much, much wiser! Thank you Google and YouTube!! :)
This new-found knowledge has finally allowed me to properly process this (two-image) aerial panorama of Cape Town and Table Mountain... which I captured mere seconds before sunrise a couple of years ago... through the open door of a light aircraft.
You can expect better photos from me from now onwards. :)
Aerial Panorama, Nikon D800, Nikkor 24 - 70 mm at 24 mm, ISO of 100, aperture of f/6.3 with a 1/80th second exposure.
