The weather in Durbanville looked very promising on Saturday afternoon... a warm temperature... a slight breeze... and a sky full of streaky white clouds!

Jenny suggested that we grab the kids and a cooler-box full of food and drinks, and head down to the beach for a sunset picnic (and some photography of course). However, the closer we got to the beach... the more the weather seemed to be deteriorating. A cold front was moving in fast and pretty soon the sun and sky had disappeared completely behind a huge bank of foggy low-flying clouds!!

We spent an hour or two messing around on the beach (kicking a soccer ball)... but when the weather didn't seem to be improving, we considered going home again to enjoy our picnic in front of the TV while watching a DVD (or two).

Just as we were considering our options, I noticed a small gap forming below the clouds and above the horizon... would the sun pass through that gap, I wondered? Being the eternal optimist that I am... I suggested that we stay at the beach and hope for the best.

Well... as you can see... the sun did pass through that gap... and it did provide the much hoped-for light. It was much better than I could ever have hoped for... I don't think that I've ever photographed light quite this beautiful!!
