Pano-Rig

So… after many months of dreaming and scheming… I’m finally ready to shoot my first multi-camera panorama!

Huh…? I hear you all ask. :)

Shooting a multi-image panorama is challenging enough with one camera… why on earth would anyone want to attempt it with SIX cameras!?

Well… as anyone who has already attempted a single-camera panorama will tell you… the biggest problem is capturing panos that include moving objects.

Since the final image will consist of multiple images each taken seconds apart… moving objects can never be stitched when they appear in different positions in successive frames.

So the ONLY way to capture a pano of moving objects is with a dedicated panoramic-format camera (of which there are very few)… or by using multiple cameras like this.

So here we have it then… six (24 megapixel) Nikon D3200 cameras… six Nikon 35mm prime lenses… a multi-camera shutter-release cable (thanks Ohan Smit)… and finally a sturdy-as-a-rock yet light-as-a-feather purpose-built aluminium camera-rig (a huge thanks to Jorg Mauderer)!

I can’t wait to head out to the beach this afternoon… to finally shoot a panorama of Table Mountain… with MOVING waves!!

Rock and Roll!!
