Caffe della Pace

Via della Pace, Rome. This was certainly one of the nicest bar / cafes I came accross on my brief trip to Italy. Just off the lively Piazza Navone this is a little oasis of calm, complete with ivy clad facades and a lovely shady terrace onto the street for some prime people watching. It's more expensive to drink out on the terrace than inside, but you'll do it anyway. I've been told that, among others, Bob Dylan frequents the place when in Rome. I can see why too...the place has an effortless old world charm, and the kind of atmosphere that many places try to replicate but fail. I guess you either have it or you don't. When I was there they were playing a nice mix of seventies funk and soul (you can't go wrong with James Brown) so myself and Phil were well happy...but then they go and spoil it all be putting something stupid like Avril Lavigne on. I don't get it. Still, it's a quality spot. Along with the above they made me some damn tasty Bloody Marys, and I'm not easy to please when it comes to Marys that are Bloody. Plus, I'm told they do some seriously good nibbles...but I didn't partake myself. The tomatoes kept me going. All in all, if it's good enough for Bob, it's good enough for me.
