The Strawberry Hall
Here's one for you...the Strawberry Hall (Strawberry Beds, Dublin 20) is supposed to be the second oldest pub in Dublin, though no-one can tell me how long it's been around. It seems that the bikers and tree surgeons of Dublin have been keeping it a secret for ages. Vera Cummins and family have been running the place for the last 60 odd years since Vera's father bought her the place as a start up business when she got married. She's been doing a good job too; the place is one of those treasures you come across by accident...a real gem. Doesn't look up to much from the exterior but inside it's got as much charm as any place I've come across in Dublin. There's a function room too, straight out of 1973, that you can rent out of an occasion, and seemingly they operate a shutter bus for customers to bring them back to civilisation when the session's done. Good thing too, it's in the middle of no-where. No pub grub but they do sandwiches that would placate a ravenous trucker. The Guinness is soup and a sandwich anyway...well worth the visit, even if it is in the back of beyonds.
