O’Donoghue’s

Suffolk Street, Dublin.

More commonly known as “the place that used to be Thing Mote”. I used to drink here a lot years ago. I liked it then; the crowd, the layout and the music were great. It had, however, the worst smelling jacks in the western world...but swings and roundabouts, it was still a good spot.

Recently I ventured back to the place. The layout is the same, they still sell alcohol, the jacks still reek, but the atmosphere and the crowd are completely different. Maybe it was just that evening, but I put it down to the music they were playing; Bon Jovi, Joe Dolan, Scorpions...they were all out in force. And not in an ironic way. In a very, very bad way. My head was wrecked listening to it. And, worse again, the pint wasn't great either. Shame...it used to be a good place. I won't be going back in a hurry.
