Swifte Mausoleum

A highly unusual 3-sided pyramid mausoleum structure, with ashlar masonry set in diagonal courses. It is the final resting place of Godwin Swift. A noted freemason, he was also the uncle and benefactor to the renowned writer and dean, Jonathan Swift. Alongside Godwin lies the remains of Sophia Jane Swift who died in 1851 in Versailles.

 

Not what you might expect to find in an old country graveyard in Co. Meath...
