The Barge
At the Grand Canal lock on Ranelagh Road, Dublin. This place dates back to 1799 but was refurbished in 1994. Unfortunately all original freatures no doubt ended up in the skip. To compensate they've kept half demolised brick walls and added a few interior design details for character. The ceiling in this shot, for example, is only for appearance and serves no structural purpose. It's laid out over 3 floors, with the top floor looking over the canal. It can be nice of a summer's day to drink some cool pints of cider beside the canal, when they allow you to take your pint beyond the pavement...which is rare. When it gets mental busy there can be a huge amount of folk outside by the canal. They do good pub grub too in fairness to them, and if you're into your sport there's about a million tellys and a billion stations to tickle your fancy.
In 1998, it won the Dublin Pub of the Year Award, but I've never been a huge fan of the place...must be just me, the place seems to be as popular as ever.
