McElroy’s

Plaza de Armas, Chivay, Peru. You can't go anywhere without an Irish bar rearing it's head...but it was the only bar open in town so we made a bee-line. It stank like an old sock, but we soon got over that. It's a simple place, one room with some seats and a pool table. Seemingly we were the only Irish to have stepped in the door for years. Accordingly we bought a bottle of whiskey and taught the boys how to make hot ones...they seemed happy. We were happy too, drinking at altitude will do that. It's a good spot to meet some locals too. We arranged a cheap guide who brought us to the nearby Colca Canyon the next day...much cheaper than the official tour crowds, plus we could stop whenever the view dictated. Much better way to go about it.
