Hometown Girl in Downtown Dundalk.

When I was a child, Dundalk was a very successful manufacturing town with cigarette, beer and shoe industries to the fore. They've all gone now and Dundalk has struggled to re-invent itself as a post-industrial services centre. The town itself has changed dramatically with the once bustling shopping streets now mainly derelict. It's sad to see but that's the way it has been for a number of towns across Ireland, the UK and even the US as traditional manufacturing has all but disappeared. Where I'm standing was once home to a number of long closed shops that were demolished to make way for a rather pleasing water fountain display............and a Surly Girl. (Thanks to Nikki for kindly taking the photo.)
