2405_0302 American Avocets
Evening arrived and the light turned warm. Flybys were constant. Most of the feeding shorebirds - principally Red-necked Phalaropes and Semipalmated Sandpipers - were in the paler, shallow water. When I saw the two American Avocets coming, I had just enough time to raise my camera, focus, and compose before they flew across the patch of darker blue. This separated them nicely from the background. One of those intuitive moments when I guessed correctly what would happen and how it would look. I can be guilty of "overthink", so sometimes not having time to think at all is a good thing...
That's the female in front, with the more pronounced curve to her bill; the male is following. I was lucky to get both up and down wing positions in this shot.
One more shot to come from this location.
