2305_2435 Smooth Blue Beardtongue

Beginning a new image set today: recent macro photography. Penstemon nitidus is a dryland specialist that does well in our area. It's small flowers are arranged on a raceme-like spike, and are a lovely bright blue with tinges of lavender.

I have no idea what this insect is. It was really, really tiny - the tubular corolla of this species is only 3/4" long. Wind is the biggest problem in shooting macro on the prairie, but on this day the air was remarkably still.

Photographed in Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©2023 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
