14510 Back Country Camp - 1982
I had a request for a peek at the back country camp on Sheep Mountain - the destination we were headed for in yesterday's rest stop photo - so here it is. Fantastic scenery if that fog would lift. Sheep Mountain looms in the background; behind me the meadows slope down toward the plateau and creek drainages that were our access route.
From my trail journal: "Last night I woke in darkness and took a long look at the night sky awash with stars and the first cloud layers scudding by... the sight was breathtaking... I had planned to wake up for that view, and also for dawn; interesting how one can prime one's internal alarm to go off on cue. But our view at dawn this morning was of a grey wall...
"Later. Pissing rain now - big drops, lots of them. Good. Let's get it over with. We're snug in sleeping bags and prepared to wait it out."
What would a backpacking trip be without a little weather? The next morning dawned cold and clear.
More to come...
