2203_0827 Ice Abstract

Spring ice is among my favourite subjects. Find the "right" ice, get in the "right" head space, and it's fantasy land. For this shot last spring I straddled one of the local ditches. Minor shifts in angle of view radically changed the tonal values here, so I tried this and that until I ran out of ideas.

This may look like a black and white conversion, but it isn't. This is natural colour - or lack thereof. I could have increased contrast by darkening the dark parts, but decided to keep it close to how I remembered the scene. It's difficult to determine scale here, but scale isn't the point; in fact, if you're thinking "abstract", the absence of scale probably contributes to the desired effect. Anyway, I was standing up, so this is not a macro shot.

Macro work to follow, starting tomorrow.
