1609_0157 Brown Thrasher
August and September are usually our driest months, so I keep the backyard bird baths filled and as clean as possible at that time of year. They are used heavily. Not only do these birds drink their own bathwater, but they poop in it, too. There's just no setting them straight on these matters.
This Brown Thrasher has just hopped out of the water and is giving its feathers a good shake. The time I get to spend with my little visitors is especially vivid because I know they'll all be heading south in a matter of weeks, or even days.
It may resemble a thrush, but this thrasher is actually related to the catbirds and mockingbirds.
