06835 Abandoned - near Cookshire, Quebec - 1977

Last blast from the past (until next time). This was my second published photo, entered in a magazine photo contest (theme: Buildings). It won an honourable mention; I was pretty excited.

This doesn't mean I think it's a great shot; I don't. It's okay for an early effort. I wouldn't place it among my best work today - not even close. But getting published was a Big Thing for me in the early days: some affirmation that just maybe I was on the right track.

The pulp mill where I was working (see b&w pic a few days ago) shut down for routine maintenance for a few weeks in fall 1977, giving me a chance to fly back to Quebec, see my parents and brother, catch up with old friends, and so on. Old friends Susan and Kevin lived in Cookshire, in the Eastern Townships, and I made this shot on a driveabout with Susan.

Photographed near Cookshire, Quebec (Canada); scanned from the original Kodachrome 25 slide (ISO 25 !!!), shot with a Pentax Spotmatic and 24mm lens. Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©1977 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
