2111_1796 Red Fox in Stubble Field
A chance encounter. I was exiting the park after an intense shoot when I noticed this little one curled up in a field of wheat stubble just off the road. This wouldn't happen in summer, when tourist traffic is heaviest and most wild critters stay away from the roads (except at night). Shooting from the rolling red Toyota blind, as soon as I focused the 500mm I could see that it was watching me. With both eyes.
Three frames later, it got up, crossed the road, and went off in search of a more secluded place, or perhaps a meal. For me, it was an unexpected bonus after a good morning spent with deer, coyotes, and the first ice on the river.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends! (We had ours in October, which makes sense in a northern location, where harvest is earlier in the season.)
Photographed just outside the north gate of Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©2021 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
