The World's Coolest Bear gets rewarded after trapping a Pink Salmon in a shallow pool along the spawning channel. As the tide came in, the fish started running, and we saw Georgina catch 7-8 salmon in less than an hour. I was really happy with the light that day, and the soft rain - more like mist, not enough to get us wet - added a nice element to the photos. We had our share of sunny days, and in that light much of the detail of the bears' dark fur was lost in the excessive contrast.
This image ends the "west coast revisited" set, and starts a new one: predators with their prey. Expect a few rodents, recently expired. Maybe a little gore; the food chain isn't always a pretty sight (but I've seen worse hanging in butcher shops). And maybe a few surprises.
I'll be skipping one day, though, as I'm heading off on a small adventure this morning and won't be home until late tomorrow. Hoping for migratory birds, especially species that bypass my home turf in and around Grasslands NP.
Photographed on the wild west coast of British Columbia (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©2019 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
