1908_6384 Black Bear

I've been charged by bears, but this wasn't one of those moments. Georgina, the World's Coolest Bear, has her mind on salmon - as usual. If that foreground rock were not in the way, we probably could see the frantic salmon splashing to get out of her sightline. The salmon are quick, but here, near their spawning beds, the shallow water gives them little chance of escaping once seen by a bear. Their best bet is to slip past unnoticed.

Yesterday's shot of this bear catching a Pink Salmon made Explore, but I would not rank it among my best. Much better shots have slipped past, unnoticed, like a spawning salmon. I vastly prefer soft light, as seen here, to bring out the nuances in that black fur.
