92623 Prairie Smoke - 2002

Dawn in the tallgrass prairie of western Minnesota. The trick here was to line up the three stems so that there were equidistant from my film plane - parallel plane focusing allowed me to keep them all relatively sharp despite a wide f-stop. I needed the wide f-stop because there was a ripple of wind necessitating the fastest shutter speed I could manage - and this was in the days of slow slide film (ISO 50).

Scanned from the original Fujichrome Velvia slide. Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©2002 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
