On southern Vancouver Island, on the West Coast Road, a curving hill winds down from a tree farm to Jordan River. (For some reason the maps always label it "River Jordan", but nobody calls it that.) In the many years I lived in the Island, I made many trips out that way, as the shoreline can be quite good, photographically, at low tide, and sometimes there are surfers and windsurfers on the incoming tide. Beyond the river mouth, along the 40-odd km road to Port Renfrew, are many jumping off points to hiking trails, wild beaches, pristine forest, and more. Many photos from this area have made it into my Flickr collection.

In August, I headed out that way again, with my friend Chris. As we whizzed around the final bend to the first view of the beach at Jordan River, I held a camera with a Rokinon 8mm lens out the passenger side window and fired a burst at an intentionally slow shutter speed. The fisheye effect distorted the front end of his truck a little, but it did convey what I hoped it would. More to come. My BC trip wasn't all bears!
