89804 Blue Grama Grass - 2001
I made this shot in Texas while shooting a book for the Saskatoon based writer Candace Savage. (Prairie: A Natural History). It became the 2004 Book of the Year in Saskatchewan. The trick to making this shot work was to line up the entire subject as parallel as possible to the film plane (today it would be parallel to the sensor, of course), thus making every part of the subject equidistant and likely to remain in focus with a moderately wide aperture.
Photographed in Caprock Canyons State Park, Texas; scanned from the original Fujichrome Velvia slide. Camera was a Nikon F100 with 105mm macro lens. Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©2001 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
