1905_1330 Blue-winged Teal

Yesterday morning I sat on the bank of the Frenchman River where it is wide and shallow, and waited to see who would come to visit. Sure enough, within ten minutes a Blue-winged Teal pair came gliding along, followed by three more.

In processing, I didn't like the colour cast, which was dull and blue under cloudy skies. I ran it through Photoshop's "Auto Color", ending up with less blue but high contrast, and faded that a little. Then on impulse I used Silver Efex from the Nik Collection to convert to black and white, and fine tuned the contrast in Photoshop Levels until I had an image that pleased me. Playing with the materials can be rewarding, and it isn't always necessary to know what you're doing or what you want from the outset.
