1805_3148 Western Meadowlark

I've just returned home from a short trip to Kananaskis in the Canadian Rockies - I seem to be in a pattern of short trips this summer - and while I catch up on image processing and weeding my garden, here's a Western Meadowlark from last month, singing his territorial imperative from a post. Singing? This guy is belting it out! If there is a more enthusiastic singer among spring migratory birds on the northern prairie, I haven't heard him!

Photographed near Val Marie, Saskatchewan (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission © 2018 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
