1806_1491 Clustered Broom-rape

I've done very little wildflower photography during the past two summers; drought has minimized the bloom. With a return to a wetter situation - it rained here five times in June, and once so far in July - flowers are more abundant, so I hiked a trail recently with a macro mindset.

This lovely, low-growing prairie flower is parasitic on sages and other composites. I found it near Eagle Butte, in Grasslands National Park, Saskatchewan (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission © 2018 James R. Page - all rights reserved.
