Late Christmas present
Despite a late wake-up that put me two hours behind schedule, I was fortunate to catch the Rock & Rail running on UP's Tennessee Pass. The crew has just completed a pickup from UP's Pueblo yard and received their track warrant. They'll have set-outs at Portland and Florence before tying up for the day back in Portland. While I've recently caught this move on Tuesdays, I figured the holiday might put them off the schedule by a day, and wasn't disappointed.
Most noteworthy, and in an unprecedented display of post-Christmas cheer, I heard a heart-warming radio discussion amongst the members of a UP yard crew. They decided to allow the R&R crew to finish their work first on the premise it would only take 10 minutes, while they'd have to wait an hour if the UP crew went first. So...railroading can employ common sense...?
