Central Illinois History
On trackage built to serve as Illinois Central's original "Mainline of Mid-America," a Decatur Central grain train has Cisco in the rear view mirror as it trundles toward Argenta. It will eventually interchange with CN at Decatur.
DCC was founded in August 2016 as a joint venture between OmniTrax and grain co-op Topflight Grain, which purchased the 16 miles between Decatur and Cisco from the Decatur Junction Railway. It has been in operation since January 2017.
In the lead is GMTX GP38-2 #2227, reportedly built as Penn Central (PC) #7992. In trail is GMTX (Heart of Texas) GP38-2 #2214, reportedly built as PC #7967. Since this photo was taken, both have been replaced by other lease power.
