I tried out the picasa3 mosaic maker, it is terrific. You just click on the photos, click on the mosaic thing, and hey presto. In this option, it arranges everything according to size (and you can shuffle things around at random); in another you can do equal rows, all pics the same size, and the third, a large central pic and small ones all around it. You can have it with or without spaces between pics, whatever size you like (just by sliding a pointer) and whatever colour you like.
