inspiration

I read the Tracy Chevalier book for my reading group; it involves an English Quaker quilter who brings her patchwork technique to the US, where appliqué is the usual style. I also came across the two quilting novels by Chiaverini in a second-hand bookshop but they are harder to get into and would probably be better if I'd started at the first of the series. However, all this reminded me that I had a never-worn sari waiting to be made into something more useful, and needed cushion covers, so that's what I've been doing this week, thanks to the help of Irma's Sampler, a book I found many years ago in Paris, with patterns of Dutch quilts. It was a great help with the (very easy) log cabin square.

This is the first time I've tried patchwork on the machine and am pleased with the results, even though sometimes one side of the square ended up at least an inch shorter than the other three.
