Tesfay, 24, Adi Harush refugee camp, Ethiopia
As a young man in Eritrea, Tesfay was forced to serve in the army. Conditions were bad. Tesfay didn’t see his family for two years. In 2011 he fled Eritrea and headed north. When he reached Egypt, he was captured and tortured by smugglers. Now aged 24, he lives in the Adi Harush refugee camp in Ethiopia. Tesfay enjoys writing poetry and short stories; it is a way of processing what has happened to him, he says.
