Girl doing her school work in Kamuli, Eastern Uganda
When girls do enrol in primary school, they are as or more likely than boys to continue to the upper grades.
In Ethiopia, Nepal, Uganda and Viet Nam, more girls now are benefiting from education, particularly at primary level, largely due to expanded opportunities and national policies of free and obligatory schooling.
However while gender disparity in the numbers of children entering and completing lower secondary schooling has narrowed, many countries haven’t yet achieved parity (UNESCO, 2015).
