ODI Global
Santos, Peru
Before, residents of this area belonged to another community. We didn't have paths, roads, stairs, electricity or water. For that reason, one day in February 2007, we united with the neighbours to officially found our community. In that meeting we gave it the name of Virgen de la Candelaria.
From that year I have been the leader of this community and I feel that we are progressing slowly every year thanks to the collaboration of all the population. From the government we haven't received much help because we don’t have any property titles. But with the help of the NGO Desco we are building a little park, and with the NGO Rotarios we are building a big panel to trap the fog and turn it into water. The objective of our community is to work really hard amongst ourselves and create a place where our children can live together with dignity.
