Chitra, Nepal

I am an SBA ANM (Skilled Birth Attendant Auxiliary Nurse Midwife). I have been working in Phulpingkot for two years. Before I came here I was working in my home of Namapur.

As an ANM my main responsibility is to work on maternal health. My duties include pregnancy checks, safe delivery, postnatal care, antenatal care and post-abortion care. My main objective is to reduce the mother-child death rate and to promote safe motherhood.

Antenatal care (ANC) takes place from the beginning of pregnancy to just before delivery. We do lots of check-ups during this time. According to WHO guidelines we have to perform check-ups four times during pregnancy: after four months, six months, eight months and nine months. In our ANC we provide information about birth and check the woman is hydrated and we give expectant mothers lots of advice about their situation.
