Shallot wholesalers in Bandiagara market

Wholesalers buy from producers and then sell the produce across the country. Many suffered terrible losses during the crisis when trade routes to the North were cut off. Others lost several months’ worth of produce as their warehouses were burnt down during the conflict. Responding to the loss of trade with the North, traders shifted their trade towards Mopti and the south of the country, and moved to trade products that can be bought locally, like shallot seeds, rather than fresh shallots which are used for export further away.
