Darter (male in breeding plumage). A widespread resident in the Indian sub-continent apart from North-West, North-East and the Himalayas. Often swims with head and neck above the water and body below. Spends much time drying its spread wings and tail while sitting on a favoured perch. Slowly submerges into the water while diving.
