Oshi Builds
Last light; first snow
‘Look down.’
Sammen dared to lean towards the parapet, quickly ducking backwards.
‘Fifty feet of sheer, solid stone,’ continued Lord Bolton, whose furs bristled with a bitterly cold breeze. ‘A mountain of masons’ toil; the salient which holds all which is human within, and that which is all but human out. It has stood here for ninety years, unwavering against the hordes which inevitably come down from the hills every year.’ He looked out to the countryside, the snow-blemished fields which cascaded for such a distance they seemed to pile up on the horizon, like some behemoth of dirt and frost. Sammen shivered. They had been walking along the wall for some hours now - him, his cousin Joseph and Lord Bolton, all three outfitted with maille; the former two donned tattered cloaks which, ominously, seemed to have had more former owners than they had threads. Lord Bolton, wrapped liberally in pelt, wore a freshly made cape, which he brushed down every so often with a groan of irritation.
‘Now, look up,’ said Bolton, turning to face the knights. Sammen tried to turn his face upwards, but the bulk of his helm meant he had to lean back in order to look. The sky was grey for as far as the eye could see, and seemed to hang closer to the ground than normal.
‘There’ll be loads of snow,’ said Sammen. ‘At least it can’t get much colder.’
At this, Bolton laughed, a moment of maniacal amusement playing out on his face. He stopped, his face expressionless once more and, with a shake of his head, continued to walk along the wall, his boots clipping the snow with soft, gravelly crunches.

I did quite a lot of work on this, although funnily enough it took me a lot less time than I’d expect of myself. It was a lot of fun to get the snow texturing right - although I suppose the disparity between the wall and the roof in the background begs a few questions - but it was great to be back to doing some larger building. I may or may not put a separate photo of the house in the backdrop up on Flickr, although if you go through my old posts you’ll know I’m terrible at remembering to do these kind of things.
C&C welcome, as always, and I hope you enjoy.
