Dark Times: Order 66 on Ithor
‘It was cold on Ithor. Doesn’t look it from outer space but the glacial regions were freezing - quite literally. The frost bit at my elbows as the soft snow slipped beneath my boots as we trudged towards some city or another. I was having trouble focusing on mission briefings - something wasn’t quite right, but I couldn’t decide if it was a gut instinct or all in my head. The boys all seemed quieter, less enthusiastic before. The war had taken its toll on all of us.’
‘My pathfinders and I were walking past an AT-TE claimed by the weather several weeks into the campaign when the order came. The rumbling of artillery in the distance faded and the screams I could still hear from the past were silenced. There was only one objective now. The planet and its inhabitants were forgotten as Order 66 resounded inside my head. The general stopped moving as my squaddies began to catch on, and began to turn, igniting his blade. I watched in silence as his body was punctured, bolt after bolt of plasma slicing at his flesh. Somehow I didn’t have the heart to join in, but my guns still found themselves among those firing upon the man we once loved.’
