Esna 2

The paintings of the hypostyle hall in the temple at Esna have been recently restored. A Khnum temple had stood here since the New Kingdom (reign of Thutmose II, 18th Dynasty), and reliefs attest to renovations during the Hellenistic era (Ptolemy III Euergetes, 3rd century BC). Much of the structure was rededicated under Decius in the mid-3rd century CE, making this one of the last monumental temples in ancient Egypt before the arrival of Christianity.
