Work in progress at the Frauenkirche, München, Germany
The two towers (both 99 meters tall) of the Frauenkirche in Munich (which is officially called: 'Dom zu Unserer Lieben Frau') are among the city's most well-known and recognisable buildings....this Roman Catholic Cathedral was constructed at the end of the 15th centruy and its main architect was Jörg von Halsbach. For the last few years, the North tower (right) has more or less hidden due to being cleaned and under some restoration works...workers have only recently removed the scaffolding (though some is still left, as is visible on the photo) so that this tower is now visible again. As one can see, the right tower is now slightly lighter than its counterpart on the left. Not for long however...this autumn, restoration/cleaning works will start on the South tower (left) so it may be another few years before the towers are both visible together as they were today... The golden Statue of the Virgin Mary (Mariensäule) was once located in the Frauenkirche, but is now found on nearby Marienplatz.
