Maximilianeum, Home of the Bavarian Parliament, Munich, Germany
This fine Renaissance-style (though actually built in 1874) palace stands at the end of one of Munich's finest avenues, Maximilian Straße, on the banks of the Isar river. For a while now, it has been the heart of regional democracy, since it is home to the Parliament (Landtag) of the State of Bavaria (Bayern) since 1949. Its first architect was Friedrich Bürklein but he was later replaced by Gottfried Semper. The German flag (left) and the Bavarian flag (right) can be seen flying on top of the building.
