Reading a good book between the poplars...Hyde Park, Sydney
The ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) War Memorial - completed in 1934 - is a commemorative World War I military monument in Sydney, and is located in the Southern part of Hyde Park. Part of the monument, designed by architect Charles Bruce Dellit, is the 'lake of reflection'; a large rectangular pool that is flanked by rows of poplars. Poplars are not native to Australia and here symbolise those areas of (far away) France where Australian troops have fought during the First World War.
