The local land managers thought this old field of goldenrod and bramble wasn't developing into forest fast enough. They got some money, some volunteers, and planted hundreds of trees. I bet they calculated the exact number of trees required to make a forest, the precise proportions of oak to sycamore and maple. Thanks to this noble project, this field will surely progress more quickly to forest, as doubtless nature intended it to be. With so much land to look after, what would Nature do without our assistance sometimes?
