Memorial Day, 2011
Taken at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. It rained almost all afternoon yesterday but I got about 5 minutes of sun to capture this shot (and then the skies opened up and it poured again).
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 30 in 2011). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates men and women who died while in military service to the United States. First enacted to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War, it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars. (source: Wikipedia)
No matter where you are in the world, take a moment this weekend to say a silent "thank you" and prayer for all the men and women in service, who sacrifice so much for their country. Too many have ended up paying the ultimate price. Is it a dream to wish for peace and no more war? I would love to see that in my lifetime but I'm not sure...
